The Difference Good Insulation Makes In Hot Tubs

By: 🐟 BlueFish Hot Tubs

Do hot tubs need insulation and why is insulation important? That is the burning question that many hot tub enthusiasts are wondering.

You can find all kinds of hot tubs today and the majority of them come with unique features that are pushing the envelope of what’s possible in the hot tub market.

With such a huge selection of hot tubs, it’s hard to know which one you should choose. When you do choose one, you have to start thinking about maintenance, what temperature should the water be, how often can you use the hot tub, and of course should you get a hot tub with insulation.

While it can seem like you just stepped into the confusing world of hot tubs and insulation, there is an upside, because we’re going to be making this crystal clear by going over the key points of what you should know about hot tub insulation!

Why is insulation important?

All in all, there are quite a few reasons why hot tub insulation is important, but in particular, there are two main reasons.

These two reasons are.. to keep running costs low and to support structural integrity.

Let’s start with running costs. Heating water in the hot tub can be expensive, especially if you need to heat the water up a lot

A few variables that will affect your water heating bill include what water temperature you prefer, where you live (which we will touch on later), and how often you use your hot tub.

Insulation can really help in reducing running costs because you don’t need to worry about heating up the water as much.

So instead of spending a lot of money to heat the water up, you can lower the running cost price simply by having the right amount of hot tub insulation.

Hot tub insulation is not only used to keep running costs low but it also adds structural integrity. It adds structural integrity by increasing strength and helping add shape to the shell of the hot tub.

Insulation also helps prevent hot tub breakages by supporting the structure and adding durability.

The different types of insulation

Most hot tubs already come with insulation unless you get one custom-made, so when you go to buy a hot tub, one thing to consider is the type of insulation it includes.

To choose the hot tub that has just the right amount of insulation you need it’s good to get familiar with the different types of insulation.

Here are a few main types of insulation

Partial foam insulation fills part of the air pockets in the hot tub, it won’t be the best at increasing your hot tubs energy efficiency because it doesn’t fill all the air holes, but it will save you money compared to some of the other insulation options.

Full foam insulation fills all the air holes so air cannot escape, the full-foam insulation will definitely raise your energy efficiency levels but it will also be a bit more expensive than partial foam insulation.

Multi-density foam insulation offers the perfect measure of insulation for hot tubs, it will spread where it needs to and fill air pockets more accurately, this is one of the most energy-efficient insulations out there, but it’s a little more on the pricey side.

After understanding the different types of insulations, it’s then time to consider which insulation is best for you.

Weather does play a huge role, if you live somewhere exotic with high temperatures, you may not need the same amount of insulation as you would if you live here in the United Kingdom.

Your insulation budget is another factor to weigh up, if you have a large budget you can get better insulation however you may not need to spend much depending on what quality of insulation you need.

Our award-winning insulation

When it comes to our hot tub insulation we have gone above and beyond to give you great insulation at competitive prices. Our suppliers lead the way when it comes to insulation, they add a high-density foam insulation to significantly reduce heat loss and keep running costs low.

Our R10 and R18 range is kitted out with some of the best insulations on the market, below we go into a little bit more depth on the features of each range.:

R10 Energy Savings – our R10 Insulation gives you up to 60% energy savings. Tests showed the average monthly running costs for the R10 range hot tubs are around £14, compared to £47 with a standard hot tub.

R18 Exceptional Insulation – our R18 Hot Tubs are built with a 6-layer insulated American acrylic shell, and further insulated with R18 wall-to-wall full foam.

From both these ranges, you can see we’ve done our research when it comes to insulation and it shows when you look at the energy efficiency results these hot tubs provide!
